Notidian Manifesto
Dear Internet,
We build Notidan following these core principles that are written in stone. Those stones that will be discovered by future researchers and be studied long after we are gone.
Own your ideas. Build without bounds. Forever yours.
1. No Subscription Trap
How many subscriptions do you want me to have and pay for, even if I use them once or twice, or even if I use them a lot? Why do we have to pay constantly for something that we don’t own? It feels weird. I know modern companies have found endless gold mines with this model, but we, the users, have had enough. It is not about ownership; it is not about hoarding; it is about consistency and having the right tools at the right time. When you buy tools for DIY projects at home, you have them; you can pass them down through generations, and you can create and use them as much or as little as you want. You pay for the hammer once. Nails are somewhat different but follow the same idea; you buy them, use them to build things, and save the spare ones for later. If you need more nails, you buy more and repeat.
And software is no different. That is why I love it. You buy the computer once, pay for the electricity you consume, not a subscription. You buy one application, use it, and keep it for as long as you want. When you need a special feature that requires servers to run somewhere else—your computer, let’s say an AI API, or heavy processing—you pay for it, get the result, and keep it. No subscriptions needed.
2. Files That Are Yours
That is the core philosophy of Notidian and many other applications like it. We make hammers that last, that can be used on any platform you imagine, the hammer that you paid for once and use endlessly. Therefore, the stuff you create is yours forever, independent of the tool you use. You won’t need the hammer to open the closet you made with it. The closet is yours, even if you can’t find the hammer. That is the beauty of it. We were very inspired by the essay “Files over Apps” by the chief of Obsidian.
We are constantly building a tool that lasts, that can be extended as you need it, and that will never be gone. A tool that will always be yours because we built it, you paid for it, and now it belongs to you.
3. A Gym and and operative sistem for the Mind
We are transitioning to an era where AI is taking over, and we love it despite the many downsides it has. When used to improve our skills, train our minds, learn to learn, Notidian is a tool that helps you to be active, remember important things, keep track of your beloved topics, and maintain a healthy mind. Just like the same robots can handle repetitions at the gym for you, AI can’t put your brain into exercise. So you will need a tool that accompanies you for the rest of your life. An operating system that is yours forever and handles all your media and personal life. A place that synchronizes with the drives you decide, with no extra and hidden costs.
Colophon
We are builders, not renters. We reject the subscription trap and the greed that fuels it. We prioratize quality, forge hammers that last lifetimes and nails we buy only when needed.
